How To Identify Wasps
Wasps are flying insects with slender bodies and a distinctive narrow waist between the thorax and abdomen. They come in various colors, including black, yellow, and metallic shades, with some species exhibiting bold markings. Most wasps have two pairs of wings and can be distinguished from bees by their smooth, less hairy appearance. They typically have long antennae and elongated legs. One of their most recognizable traits is their pointed stinger, which can be a crucial defense mechanism. Wasps also exhibit a wide range of sizes, from less than half an inch to over an inch in length, depending on the species.
